Allergies affect several million people each year. Pet dander, pollen, dust, and even foods can cause an allergic reaction that can run from mild to life threatening. Even a mild allergic reaction can leave the sufferer feeling miserable and sick.
What Causes Allergies
Simply put allergies occur when your immune system reacts to normal substances as though they pose a risk to your health and sends antibodies to find the dangerous substance. The immune system’s reaction can cause inflammation of your sinus, throat, digestive passage and even skin. Allergy symptoms may include:
- watery, itching, red or swollen eyes
- itching, runny and stuffy nose
- Shortness of breath
- And in severe cases, (usually those involving insect stings and bites or food allergies) Anaphylaxis.
Treatment for An Allergy and It’s Symptoms
For mild to moderate allergic reactions the recommended treatment is over the counter medications including nasal sprays, decongestants and Nsaids or antihistamines to reduce inflammation. For more severe allergies medical treatment is recommended.
While over the counter medications such as nasal sprays and decongestants do ease the symptoms of allergies for some people, they may have little or no effect on the allergies symptoms of others leaving these people to seek an alternate way to reduce their allergy symptoms. This leads many people to wonder if CBD can be used as a treatment for allergies and their symptoms. The answer is yes and no. While there is no treatment or cure for allergies themselves you can treat the symptoms of this condition and may even– be able to reduce the frequency of attacks.
CBD Oil is Known to Reduce Inflammation- Since inflammation plays a large part in allergic symptoms, the fact that CBD oil is known to reduce inflammation may be a huge help in relieving the discomfort of swollen eyes, throat and skin and easing the pain that this inflammation causes.
CBD has Decongestant Properties- CBD interacts with endocannabinoid receptors, which may work as a decongestant to relieve mucus. This may relieve that runny and stuffy nose and help to clear up sinusitis relieving that facial swelling and pain.
What Method of CBD Consumption Will Help Relieve Allergy Symptoms the Most
With the exception of actually smoking a joint that is high in CBD and method of consumptions should relieve your allergy symptoms. However, some methods may work faster than others. For example, taking CBD capsules may be effective, but they are slowing working since the capsule needs to break down before the CBD can get in your system and start working. Tinctures, concentrates and perhaps nasal sprays may provide the fastest relief.
Keep in mind that CBD doesn’t always mix well with other medications so before taking CBD for your allergies you should contact your physician or Allergy specialist and find out if taking CBD for your allergies is something he recommends or thinks may help reduce your allergy symptoms and is safe to take with those over the counter allergy medications.
